If you’re supporting a student through the HSC and want to help without hovering, pushing, or feeling like you’re making things worse, this session is designed to provide clarity — not more pressure.

WHO THIS IS FOR / NOT FOR

This session is for parents who:

• Are supporting a student through the NSW HSC

• Want to lead calmly rather than reactively

• Feel unsure when to step in and when to step back

• Want guidance without blame, fear, or guarantees

This session is not for parents who:

• Want advice specific to their child

• Are seeking therapy or treatment

• Want strategies to control results or outcomes

• Are looking for a quick fix

WHAT YOU’LL LEAVE WITH

In this briefing, we’ll explore:

• Why well-intentioned support often escalates conflict under pressure

• How pressure changes behaviour in families, even when everyone is trying their best

• What calm parental leadership actually looks like during high-stakes academic years

• A clear framework for thinking about how to support effort without increasing strain

The session is designed to help parents leave with greater clarity about their role and how to approach the HSC year calmly.

Important to note

This is a parent education session, not therapy.

  • Students are not assessed or discussed individually
  • No diagnosis or treatment is provided
  • Questions are addressed at a general level only
  • This session does not replace individual psychological support

If you’re seeking support specific to your child or family, that’s important — and best explored one-to-one, either with your existing psychologist or support or if you don't have one you are welcome to reach out for guidance on individual support.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

This session is facilitated by Amir Salem, Clinical Psychologist.

Amir has spent many years working with adolescents and families navigating high-pressure academic periods, including the HSC. His approach is calm, practical, and non-alarmist — focused on helping parents understand their role clearly rather than adding to stress or self-doubt.
